Reading Passage 1 — The Migration of Birds A

The ability of certain bird species to migrate across vast distances has long fascinated biologists. Recent studies suggest that some species navigate using the Earth's magnetic field, while others rely on visual landmarks or the position of the sun and stars.

These findings challenge earlier theories which held that migration was purely instinctive. Researchers now believe that learning plays a significant role in developing navigational skills in young birds during their first migration.
