Reading Passage 1 — The Migration of Birds A

The ability of certain bird species to migrate across vast distances has long fascinated biologists. Recent studies suggest that some species navigate using the Earth's magnetic field, while others rely on visual landmarks or the position of the sun and stars.

B

These findings challenge earlier theories which held that migration was purely instinctive. Researchers now believe that learning plays a significant role in developing navigational skills in young birds during their first migration.

C

Conservation efforts have become increasingly important as climate change disrupts traditional migration routes. Several species have altered their wintering grounds by hundreds of kilometres over the past two decades.

PASSAGE EXCERPT (PARA A) The ability of certain bird species to migrate across vast distances has long fascinated biologists. Recent studies suggest that some species navigate using the Earth's magnetic field, while others rely on visual landmarks or the position of the sun and stars.
Q8 Answer: FALSE ✓ Your answer: TRUE
Why you missed this:
The passage says birds "migrate across vast distances" but does not state they "always return to the exact same location each year." The statement adds information not supported by the text. When the passage doesn't confirm or deny the claim, the answer is Not Given, not False.
